Mew set to return to North America as part of 2017 Tour
Danish band Mew will make a very welcomed return to North America this summer following the release of their latest album entitled Visuals earlier this spring.
Visuals is the band’s seventh album, however, it marks their first release since long time guitarist and founding member Bo Madsen’s parting from the group in 2015. While Madsen’s absence has not gone unnoticed, the band still has that unmistakably familiar feel to them that all of us fans, or should I say “frengers” know and love – proving that they are perfectly capable of carrying on (once again) as a trio.
Aside from being the first album without their guitarist of over twenty years, Visuals is also Mew’s first self-produced album. The band has been known to spend three to four years crafting albums, so when compared to those in the past, it came together much quicker than its predecessors, having only just released + – (Plus Minus) two years ago. But don’t let its celerity alarm you. Though the days of more prominent guitars and odd time signatures are easy to miss, regardless of the dynamics of the band their sound continues to remain powerful and innovative.
Given the album title, combined with frontman Jonas Bjerre’s background with incredible artwork and animation for the band, one can only imagine that the literal visuals on this tour alone are sure to be nothing short of spectacular. The album art speaks for itself, which according to Bjerre, was essentially created by making kaleidoscopes and projecting them onto themselves. The same dazzling effects were used to create the video for their single “85 Videos.”
The tour will kick off on August 3rd at the Bowery Ballroom in New York with a total of 18 dates across the US including a stop in Vancouver, all of which take place in August. Mark your calendars!
