Muse and Thirty Seconds to Mars bring Arena Rock and a Monsoon to PNC

This is one show you CAN’T miss

Summer concert season is well under way as English rockers Muse (Warner Bros. Records) team up with emo legends Thirty Seconds To Mars (Interscope Records) for an ultimate rock showcase at the PNC Music Pavilion. As Muse makes a run around the globe to get their creative juices flowing once again, a brand new record is collecting dust in their studio. The band has promised a new album in 2018, though we can hope and pray that it drops sooner since mid-May’s “Dig Down” has been dominating the alternative airwaves. Maybe if we pester them enough, it’ll happen, yeah?

Hopping in the opening slot was electronic duo Missio (RCA Records). The multimedia musicians weren’t too unfamiliar with the beaming sun and thick, humid air as they call Austin their hometown. As “Middle Fingers” climbs the Hits ladder, everyone else has been jammin’ to Loner, their debut release that dropped May 19th.

Missio-3131Joining the experimental-prog-rock gents is one of emo’s favorite bands, Thirty Seconds To Mars. Don’t deny it, you used to belt out “The Kill” and love every dramatic second of it. Fast forward about ten years and the band is on its way to releasing their fifth studio album. Set to drop this year, the trio are warming back up, much like Muse, to touring and sharing songs on the road before releasing a much anticipated fifth release.  During the course of the show the band ran up down the stage extension, Leto took an acoustic guitar out into the middle of the crowd and sang a song into a mic while smiling for photos. Later in the show he crept over the barriers and made it into the reserved area to have some special fans sing along with him.

30 Seconds to Mars-3231One moment led for a young girl to be flung on stage holding her sign about it being her first concert… and of course you have the last song of the set where they pull a ton of fans on stage and do a huge sing along. There is a camaraderie that is formed among the fans and band in the small minutes leading to these huge productions of seamless love and admiration. Many of these sights can be caught on Jared’s snapchat. You never truly know what you’re going to get out of these guys, which is both endearing and somewhat chaotic. But what else would you expect from a band whose lead singer is an Academy award winning actor? Jared Leto is man of many passions, and a master of all it seems. With his hands in music, acting, and philanthropy, you’re bound to see it all mesh somewhere. You can see Leto in the upcoming Blade Runner out in early October 2017.

After their set, the huge clouds could no longer hold their load and burst over the crowd in droves. Quickly everyone rushed to safety and some of our other fun staffers who were just attending with their girlfriends were spotted dancing in the rain shirtless and loving it!

Screen Shot 2017-06-17 at 11.02.28 AMMuse was able to take the stage around 10:15 after the rain passed and the stage was wiped down from the puddles, and, in pure Muse, fashion the lightshow was epic. The entire stage was a computer screen filled with a show set to the beat of the music. Each visual explaining another lyric, an emotion they wanted you to attach to a hook. Each pulsing flash and glamour alike struck through the thick wet air. They played an array of their greatest hits, including fan favorite “Hysteria.”

MUSE-3679It’s quite a treat to see such established acts come together and put on a show on the same stage, so get yourself to your town’s arena and be part of music history.

  1. By some miracle, was a picture taken on the girl “flung on stage” during her first concert? She’s my daughter and I’ve been looking for pictures of her from that night.
