Fillmore Underground hosts Delta Rae and friends
The Underground is a place for great music, indie and national touring bands, and some quality sound. Friday night it brought two talented bands to the stage — opener Lauren Jenkins and Delta Rae. Along with their heavy Americana vibe, we were treated to their newest video release on Thursday for their song, “A Long and Happy Life.”
Lauren Jenkins opened the show with a 30 minute set of country folk.
She’s a former Charlotte resident who enjoyed being back home. Rolling Stone named her a country artist to watch in 2016.Delta Rae came out to the sound of chirping crickets as vintage light-bulbs flickered on stage. The band is touring in support of its new EP, A Long and Happy Life. The band’s studio albums never do justice to their energy and occasional four-part harmonies.
The group recently moved to Tennessee and signed to Big Machine, so it’ll be interesting to see how much they push the country side of their pop-folk sound. Multiple members take the lead on different songs and switch up instruments ,keeping their stage performances diverse and unpredictable.
The put on a set that is a show to see if you’re into a good time, a dance floor free for all, and catching a band on the brink of arena shows.
