If you’re much of an otaku like me, you’ll know that both anime and J-punk weren’t just a ‘90s phenomenon. Along with early Hayao Miyazaki films, and Dragon Ball Z, Shonen Knife, the early ‘80s were full of epic Japanese pop-culture.
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.jsThe energy of Shonen Knife is still apparent after all of these years.
While the more recent aspects of DBZ fall short to the original, Shonen Knife’s current tour is beyond a nostalgic romp.
//embedr.flickr.com/assets/client-code.jsYou can still see them on tour, but you missed out on an intimate moment at Snug Harbor, where the band is within hugging distance.
The newest album is entitled Adventure, and the trio donned a space-aspect for this release.
This is my favorite track from the album, “Jump Into The New World”, calls to fans who may be stuck in the past of their music and maybe stuck in nostalgia: “don’t be afraid,” and “you only get one life!”
On this stop at Snug Harbor, locals Shadowgraph opened the night up with some full, dreamy, pop-psy. See their Bandcamp here.
Even though you can’t tell, there are sometimes six members in this band. No wonder they’re smooshed together on stage.
So we decided to get a new look at this classic group, and we suggest you all do the same at the tour dates below!
