Cyndi Lauper: Detours Tour, featuring Boy George

Cyndi Lauper took the stage in Boston Saturday night, dressed in a killer steampunk-meets-Loretta Lynn leather outfit (fringe and all!), playing an all-too-short twelve song set which included a hodgepodge of hits and latest album of country covers.  Powering through the set and leaving no part of the stage unmarked by her non-stop dancing – sprawling over amps, singing upside-down – only briefly interrupted by personal stories told in her classic Queens, New York accent.  Singer, songwriter, actress, and activist – Cyndi Lauper will forever be unparalled in her infectious energy, enthusiasm, and zeal; when she takes the stage, you can’t take your eyes off of her throughout the incomparable journey she takes the audience on each time she enters the room.

After a brief intermission, Boy George bounded out to belt out “Funtime” – one of eleven songs of his set, which also included five Culture Club numbers, and an encore of “Imagine,” accompanied by Cyndi Lauper.  Charming and witty, George chatted with the audience in between songs, all the while wearing a can’t-miss-it patterned two-piece design by Ben Copperwheat.

If you get a chance to embrace the 80’s in the presence of these two superstars, do not pass it up.
