The Rabbit Hole showcases birds, rhythm, and some groovy doom

Things got heavy Thursday night at one of my favorite local spots in Charlotte, The Rabbit Hole. Sludge metal legends, Crowbar, filled the club with a crowd of all ages, and it was clear everyone was excited to see them. Opening support was provided by locals, Crow Hollar; and Jacksonville, FL, natives, Rhythm of Fear.

Crow Hollar opened the show. The four-piece from Morganton, NC, plays sludgy doom/groove metal, and they’re doing it well. This young band definitely has potential to do some awesome things and I’d highly recommend checking them out, then paying attention to what they do moving forward. If you’re a fan of stoner/sludge/doom metal, then you’re going to want to check these guys out.

Rhythm of Fear plays crossover. Hardcore. Thrash. Good. I first saw these guys last year when they were on tour with Leeway, err, the Eddie Leeway Show. They played at The Milestone and totally blew me away. I’ve been a fan since. Their set Thursday night didn’t disappoint at all. They recently released a new record, Maze of Confusion, and saying that it’s good would be an understatement. This record absolutely rips, and if you don’t have it in your rotation yet, change that now. These guys are all over the place, so make sure you catch them in your area, buy a record or a shirt, let them know they’re making awesome music. Hands down, one of my favorite current active bands right now.

Crowbar is a band that I feel doesn’t really need an introduction. They came about in the late 80’s in the New Orleans metal scene and have become of of the most iconic sludge/groove metal bands in the genre. They’re still playing the same sludgy metal that their fans can’t get enough of, and they’re still doing it to perfection. Their current US tour is coming to a close shortly, but they’ll be heading over to Europe on May 1st, so if you’re reading this from across the pond, make sure you catch them while they’re in town. you won’t be disappointed.
