ReverbNation Spotlight: The Reason You Stayed

ReverbNation is the best place to discover, not only the best new music from around the country (and indeed the world), but the best new music that’s just around the corner. Charlotte’s own The Reason You Stayed might have a short selection of songs currently on ReverbNation, but that’s probably not going to be the case for long. The band, formed in 2013, describe themselves as  “bring(ing) to the stage a broad array of music including some old classic rock favorites, familiar pop with a twist, and some originals that are all our own style,” and that’s exactly what their ReverbNation presence displays.

The band plays plenty of covers, including a rockin’ version of Joan Jett’s “I Hate Myself (for Loving You)” — yeah, I just involuntarily pumped some devil horns as I typed that — but, their original track “Spades,” betrays the band’s affinity for a much harder sound and deeper themes. With a riff that at first reminds one of late ‘70s punk, but quickly morphs into an almost grunge progression, “Spades” is an excellent example of this young band’s long term potential.

A quick perusal of their Facebook page reveals that they’ve been playing gigs around town and even played Speed Street (a Charlotte tradition) just recently. They’ll also be playing Megashow at Spartanburg’s Ground Zero on June 27 and Paolina Massaro (lead vocals/guitar) was nominated for Best Rock Female at the Carolina Music Awards. Yes, The Reason You Stayed is yet another local band to watch.
